The European SUSG in partnership with SASUSG will be hosting an Alliance Workshop No. 514, titled “For environmental health and wealth: conservation through use of biodiversity.“ at the WCC on Wednesday 8 October at 16.30-18.00 in CCIB level P1 room 129.
They ask: "Is it enough just to aim to halt the decline in biodiversity? - Do you think conservation is mainly about protecting species and areas? - To have more food and bio-fuels, are we condemned to “landscapes with small islands of biodiversity in a sea of agriculture”? - Do you think that people are the problem rather than the solution?" Join them to hear the debate, with the following panel: Chair Robin Sharp: Facilitator: Robert Kenward
Panel: Rowan Martin (South Africa): “Communal Resource Management of Biodiversity,”
Stratos Arampatzis (Greece): “Use Nationally of Wild Resources across Europe”
Simon Egli (Switzerland): “Fungi for Conserving Forests.”
Zenon Tederko (Poland): “Birds as Business.”
Naseer Tareen (Pakistan): “A Trophy for Conservation through Use”.
Carolina Lasen Diaz (France): “A Charter for Trust-Building”.
"We want to show you that sustainable use is not merely about avoiding threats, but about innovative use-based opportunities to restore lost biodiversity. What pays, stays."
